OUR HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

PREVIOUSLY MARGINALISED PRINCIPALS

General

CICAM has established commitments to social responsibility and the empowerment of previously disadvantaged individuals, companies and communities. As human resources are our single most important asset, a people focussed HRD policy is in place that emphasises, inter alia:
  • Equal access to employment, training and promotion
  • Mentorship and funding of training on full-time/part-time basis
  • Advancement of staff with ability to higher positions through in-house training
  • Performance evaluations to draw up individual development plans
Establishment of participative structures in all business units each with an appropriate structure to suit the particular requirements

Staff Composition

The staff composition of our company is 100% PDI.

Employment Equity Policy

CICAM is fundamentally committed to the principle of employment equity. It therefore endeavours to give effect to the letter and spirit of Government guidelines, as reflected, inter alia, in the Employment Equity Bill, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Labour Relations Act and guidelines of the International Labour Organisation. It also promotes equality and the economic development and efficiency of staff through recruitment, training and development policies.

Economic Empowerment

The company is structured in sustainable business and work units. This allows effective participation and development opportunities for staff members at all levels thus enhancing skills and human development in both the technical and nontechnical fields.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

General

CICAM believes that companies have a special responsibility to ensure the sustainability of projects they undertake as prime wealth-creating instruments. Furthermore, employment creation is seen to be a cornerstone of engineering design, implementation and management of projects.

Education and Training

CICAM provides both technical and institutional training on construction sites and in communities. Training for emerging contractors and supervisors to facilitate successful entrepreneurial ventures is also provided.

Interaction with PDIS and PDES

CICAM is totally committed to the principles of empowerment, technology transfer and training of suitably qualified professionals through a process of genuinely sharing responsibilities and a structured strategy on a project-by-project basis. This is evident in its track record of interacting with numerous PDIs and PDEs from several different platforms, e.g. training of staff (both in specific design expertise and site supervision), joint ventures, associations and as sub-consultants to PDIs and PDEs, and providing a platform for establishing new companies.

The Company is committed to the principle of employment equity. It endeavours, within the working sphere of a professional engineering and construction practice, not only to remain globally competitive, but also to maintain local relevance.

To provide solutions for the employment, development and upliftment of people in great need is our core purpose, our mission and our professional imperative.

CONTRIBUTION TO RDP

CICAM is fully committed to the aims and objectives of the RDP and will strive to implement the project in line with the principles of the RDP and in accordance with the Clients requirements.

It is a requirement of the RDP that communities be provided with an appropriate standard of living to ensure an acceptable quality of life. It is therefore imperative that the water distribution networks be upgraded, roads upgraded, operated and maintained to approved standards in order to provide an acceptable service, thereby meeting basic needs.

Definite opportunities, therefore, exist for the execution of construction through the use of labour intensive methods. This will enhance employment opportunities for the local population and special attention will be given to the employment of women on the labour force.

This we expect to conform to human resource development, and gender-related issues with on-the-job training as a means of upliftment of previously disadvantaged companies and individuals throughout the implementation of the project.
